Building a Tiny House in Sketchup Course
THIS COURSE IS STILL IN THE CREATION PHASE BUT HERE'S A TASTE OF WHAT YOU'LL BE LEARNING AND WHY THIS COURSE IS SO IMPORTANT
knowing how every piece of your tiny house will fit together before you build it is so important!
You will save yourself tons of time, money, and headache if you take the time to plan everything out beforehand.
Whether you're using existing plans, are modifying existing drawings, or are designing your house from scratch, it's so important to lay out all the elements before you begin your build.
It's important to know that architectural plans don't dimension or call out every element that will be incorporated into your house. To build off of architectural drawings requires extensive construction knowledge and in doing so, it is very easy to make mistakes or overlook things.
In this course, we'll be using Sketchup to build and design our tiny home.
AREN'T THERE OTHER DESIGN PROGRAMS?
There are lots of architecture and building modeling programs out there like Revit and AutoCAD but they're expensive and the learning curve to become proficient in these programs is steep.
Luckily though, there are free programs available too that are relatively simple to learn and provide a lot of value in the extents of what you can do with these programs. My favorite of these is Sketchup.
Sketchup is a 3D modeling program that can be used on either Mac or PC and best of all, it's FREE! It's a very intuitive program that can be learned quickly and if you learn the proper workflow and techniques you can work much faster and smarter.
what will i be learning?
In this class we'll go step-by-step through the entire process, all the way from setting up the program and learning about how to work efficiently, to constructing every element in a tiny house that we'll build together.
A shortlist of topics we'll cover are:
Learning about layers
Groups vs. components
Using and creating keyboard shortcuts
Constructing the house from the trailer to the subfloor to the roof to the interior finishes
I encourage you to use Sketchup with me as you move along in the class so you can really grasp the concepts to use the program and apply what you learn to your own tiny house design.
Included in the class:
Video tutorials
Working files such as floor plans to be imported into Sketchup
My custom keyboard shortcuts
Guides - a variety of charts, tables, lists etc. to use as a reference such as keyboard shortcuts and material dimensions
